Kiyomizudera Temple

One of the most celebrated Buddhist temples in Kyoto and a UNESCO World Heritage site. There is plenty to see, such as a pagoda, plus various Buddhist building and monuments.  Also, try out the wish-granting Otowa waterfall!

Budget travel tips

  • Check out the shopping street approaching Kiyomizudera.
  • To avoid the crowds, come in the early morning/sunrise for a stunning view of Kiyomizudera.
  • Explore the gardens and woods in the temple complex.

How to get there

From Kyoto station, take the 206 bus to Kiyomizu-michi or Gojozaka.

From other areas, take the bus to Kiyomizu-michi or Gojozaka (large bus stop on maps).


Opening time: Usually 6am to 6pm, but check the Official Website for special opening times

Cost: 300 yen for adults, 200 yen for children
