Why pay to enter a garden when you can walk through some very Japanesy bamboo groves! The Arashiyama Bamboo Groves make a nice walk or cycle ride for people who want to experience the quiet, tranquil side of Japan.
Top Tips
- The Arashiyama area in general makes for a nice scroll, after going through the bamboo groves. At the end, turn right and go past Torokko Arashiyama Station. Then walk past the lake and down any streets that look of interest.
- Nearby Tenryuji Temple is also worth walking to.
How to get there
From Kyoto station, take the JR Sagano Line to Sagaarashiyama station (230 yen, 12 minutes). There are many signs and maps to take you from there. You can also take the No.28 bus to Arashiyama Tenryuji-mae.
From other areas, take a bus to Arashiyama Tenryuji-mae (large bus stop on bus maps).
