By Air
Kyoto doesn’t have it’s own airport, but is served by Kansai International Airport (KIX) and Itami Airport (ITM). Itami Airport is a lot closer, so try to reserve for this airport if you can.
Some travel centers, such as the Japan Travel Centre (UK), offer cheap tickets for under 25s, so call your local travel agent specializing in Japan travel and ask for any deals.
By Train
If you are far from Kyoto and have the Japan Rail Pass, you should take the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Kyoto station. If not, it’s must cheaper to get a bus (see below).
By Bus
If you are traveling far from Kyoto, such as from Tokyo, and don’t have a Japan Rail Pass then it’s best to take the bus. Prices are dramatically cheaper than the Shinkansen (bullet train).
