The Hakone Free Pass from Odakyu Railway is the best and cheapest way to visit Hakone. It provides unlimited use of the cable car, ropeway, tourist boats, trains and buses in the area, plus the ride from Shinjuku station and back. It also provides discounts to around 50 places in Hakone.
At the time of writing, all routes are in operation, but please check here for current status.
What does it cost?
Two Day Pass: Adults 5,000 yen, Children 1,500 yen.
Three Day Pass: Adults 5,500 yen, Children 1,750 yen.
When can I use it?
Anytime.
Is it worth it?
A return ticket from Shinjuku station is about the same price, plus the cable car and rope-way are very expensive without a pass. It’s a must buy.
What are the rules?
- After taking the train from Shinjuku station, must be used within Hakone only.
- Cannot be used on Limited Express trains.
Where can I buy it?
You can buy it at the Odakyu Sightseeing Service Center in Shinjuku station (map here). Make sure you take a copy of the free sightseeing map! You can also buy at Odakyu Railway (private line) ticket machines at Shinjuku station.
How do I use it?
Usually, you put the pass into the ticket gate, then take out the other side. At some stations you just show it to the ticket man/lady when you enter.

Hi,
Can I just do a day trip to Hakone with the free pass? Some agents mentioned I must overnight in Hakone for the pass to be valid. Is this true
