Pink and white flowered hills of Hitsujiyama Park, Chichibu

Saitama, right above Tokyo on the map, is often forgotten as a tourist destination. It’s a quiet prefecture that never gets much attention, and therefore is not featured much in guide books. But Chichibu is a great place for travelers on a budget with it’s large collection of mountains, cheap hot springs and Hitsujiyama Park. During early April to early May the park is covered with stunning flowers, so we went to see what all the fuss is about!

Mount Buko in the background.

Japanese people will often warn you that places like this get very crowded, but we went on a weekend and, as you can see, it’s not too bad.

It’s mostly still Japanese tourists, as it’s heavily advertised on the trains here.

The plants have been meticulously planted like this all over the park.

Not quite in full bloom, but still looks lovely!

It took a while to get there, but with views like this it’s definitely worth it.
