Mount Oyama

Along with Mount Takao, Mount Oyama (大山) is one of the best, and cheapest mountains to access near Tokyo. There are multiple routes available, so this would suit any kind of hiker. There is also a cable car for those who just want to get to the top and check out the views.

Trails take from 2 to 4 hours, and can be combined to make even longer routes.

Budget travel tips

  • Download the free map here or get one from Shinjuku station (Odakyu line). There is an English speaking help desk there, plus a tourist information center in Isehara station.

  • Bring food and drinks with you, as there is no much around apart from expensive guesthouse restaurants.

How to get there

From Shinjuku station, take the Odakyu line (private line) to Isehara station (590yen, 50 mins). You may need to change along the way. From here you need to take the bus to the beginning of trails (shown clearly on maps).

It is a good idea to get an Tanzawa-Oyama Freepass from the tourist help desk at the Odakyu train station in Shinjuku station. It costs 1,530 yen without a cable car pass, or  2210 yen with a cable car  pass. Unlimited bus use and a return train ticket is included.
