Best free apps for traveling in Japan

There are many great apps for traveling in Japan. Use the free wifi available at many locations and use these apps to make your holiday in a Japan even more awesome!

NAVITIME for Japan Travel

This is a great app that allows you to search for wifi hotspots, while offline. There are also train maps, tourist spot location guide and more useful stuff.

Booking.com

One of the best hotel websites. The good thing about Booking.com is that you can cancel reservations with a few days notice and get a full refund, allowing more flexibility as it’s always best to book as early as possible for Japan.

Skyscanner

Forget Expedia and the like, Skyscanner has the best selection of flights and more importantly includes budget airlines (LCC).

VoiceTra+

With this app, you can say a phrase in English and it will be translated into Japanese, or vise versa. Great in restaurants or shop. Works offline as well.

CamDictionary

Free app that allows you to take a picture of Japanese text, which is then translated into English.

Google Maps

The best map app for English users in Japan. Use the offline save function in a free wifi area to avoid extra charges.

Google Translate

Another great translate app, Google Translate has a cool function that allows you to easily (and without much skill!) draw Japanese characters and translate them.

Xe Currency

Our favourite currency app, but there are so many available!

Tokyo Subway

Multi-lingual app with an easy to use metro map and directions, which all work offline.
