Sapporo-Otaru Welcome Pass

Please note that sales of the JR Hokkaido Sapporo-Otaru Welcome Pass ended on March 31st, 2017. The JR Hokkaido Pass is still available.

The JR Hokkaido Sapporo-Otaru Welcome Pass allows for unlimited rides on JR Hokkaido trains between Sapporo and Otaru and on all subway lines in Sapporo for 1 day. It’s therefore a great way to visit Otaru from Sapporo on a day trip.

What does it cost?

1 day: 1,700 yen (same for children)

When can I use it?

Anytime.

Is it worth it?

A return ticket from Sapporo to Otaru would cost 1280, but you will start to save money if using the pass to get to your hotel, or if you use the included 1 day subway pass on another day. The pass does not make much sense if you are not returning to Sapporo and are continuing west (for example to Niseko).

What are the rules?

  • You cannot use on non-JR (national rail) trains,
  • Only available to people with Tourist Visas.
  • The 1 day subway and 1 day Sapporo to Otaru tickets included in this pass can actually be used on separate days.

Where can I buy it?

You can purchase at Sapporo station or New Chitose Airport.

How do I use it?

Insert your pass into ticket gates when you enter and exit stations.
