Tenryuji Temple

Tenryuji Temple (天龍寺) is ranked as one of Kyoto’s top temples and a World Heritage site. The large, but fun to navigate complex houses a beautiful pond surrounded by well manicured gardens and stone decorations.

Budget travel tips

  • Combine a trip here with the bamboo forest next door.
  • Make sure you get a ticket for the gardens and buildings, it’s only an extra 100 yen!

How to get there

By bus, take the No.11, 28 or 93 bus to Arashiyama Tenryuji-mae.

From Kyoto station, take the JR Sagano Line to Saga-Arashiyama (16 minutes, 240 yen). The temple is just a minute south of here.

Opening time: 8:30-17:30 (Summer), 8:30-17:00 (Winter- Oct. 21-Mar. 20)

Garden Cost: Adults 500 yen, Children 300 yen, Preschool free.

Building Entry Cost: Plus 100 yen.
