east_gardens2Making your way around the Imperial Palace complex is a simple to follow, flat walking route in central Tokyo. It the most must-do walk in Tokyo and a favourite for locals looking to relax or exercise.

Difficulty: Easy

Walking time: 3-4 hours depending on ability.

Start at Tokyo station, and make your way out of Maronouchi Central Exit (west). Walk to the Imperial Palace, which you will be able to see in front of you.

Once you reach the palace, a little after you cross over the first bridge, turn right. Start walking around the palace (heading north).

Once you reach Takebashi station (around 40 mins), you can either continue around on the main road, or make a left turn into a shortcut. This shortcut takes you past the National Museum of Modern Art, and if you continue west connects back up with the circular course.

Then keep on walking, cycling or jogging around the palace.
